Here is the topic of this week: “What are the questions should I ask before starting blogging?”
Well…when I first read the post on – 8 Questions I Wish I Had Answers to Before I Started Blogging for Business that Prof. Belew posted on his website. I haven’t really seriously thought about these questions.
I don’t know what question you have in mind before blogging. But below are the questions that I should have asked myself.
1) Is blogging right for me?
Frankly speaking, the answer is Yes and No. I don’t really like to write a lot at the beginning, I mean before taking Prof. Belew’s class. Especially when I have to write something on every single day. Writing content for my website involved a lot of reading and independent thinking.
I admit it is a bit against what I am doing right now. Writing 3-4 posts every day since taking Prof. Belew’s Marketing with Social Media class. After a month of “such intensive mentally and writing training“, I can feel that my writing ability and the ability to apprehend and analyze the content of articles I read, has improved dramatically.
In fact, blogging can be a lot of fun.
2) How many posts that I need to deliver.
I wish I knew the real answer, but until now I really don’t know the exact numbers. Some blogger experts say multiple times a day, some said a couple posts a week. Somebody says that the frequency of posting does not really attract new traffics. But one thing I learned is as long as my contents is good enough and treat my reader well, they will come back for more no matter how many posts I make a day, a week or a month. Another benefit that posting multiple times a day could more people may able to find me.
As of now, I have written more an 90 posts at this time. But this number does not really bring me a lot of traffic to my site but repeated visitors.
3) How I am going to promote my website?
No doubt even Prof. Belew suggested us to promote our site in a various social network sites like Facebook. I don’t really hang on Facebook and this might be the problem for me to promote my site to my Facebook friends. If you have thousand of Facebook fans in your account, then you can promote your website to them easily. It does really give a significant boost of incoming traffic.
Right now I am building my social networking accounts to promote my site. Building a significant number of friends in your list requires a lot of time andpatience and furthermore, Facebook has tightenedthe number of friends you can add at one time. Blasting of the request to “new, unknown friends” could end up account being terminated. Apparently Facebook tries to stop this abuse loophole.
4) How many traffic can I get in true blogging ?
I have been asking this question since the first day of class. I am really not sure how much traffic I can get with my health care niche website. I think different niches may be having different group of people. Not all niches are the same.
Sometimes I am wondering if video marketing is more effective in attracting more visitors than content marketing like YouTube. No doubt, video has the most visited channels. PSY Gangnam Style in YouTube has over 1.4 billion hits in about 8 months. This is the most viewed single video clip in the history. Imagine how much traffic can be driven from that video clip to my website?
5) How long should I write for me articles?
Initially, I think 500-600 word length article posts would be the ideal length. But Professor Belew explained that the ideal length is about 200 – 250 words, but not less from his experience. Two long articles do not mean good for Search Engine Optimization. But for me, I will mix and match in between 200 – 400 words length on my website. Wait and see how thing goes.
6) How to improve my page view?
For the past few weeks, I am struggling with less page view statistic. If I choose the correct WordPress theme, my page view statistic may be higher. I realize that better navigation of the website is crucial can help reader to read more from your site.
