Business Blogging as a Content Marketing Strategy – tip # 3 – how to pick a good name.
I give workshops on blogging.
I get asked to speak a lot on the topic. I even hosts Meetups on the topic. People come. They come in 20s and 30s and 40s. (Not age! The number of people.)
I sell my services. Somehow that doesn’t sound good coming from a preacher. My consulting services, I should say.
I also offer to be taken to breakfast or lunch for a free consultation. They pay and I answer questions. My sizable waistline will attest to how often I have been taken up on this.
2 Biggest Challenges for New Business Bloggers
Believe it or not, the two greatest challenges for the beginning blogger for money are:
- what to write about
- what to call their blog.
Seriously, people ask me all the time, “What should I call my blog?” and “What should I write about?”
How the dickens should I know what a person wants to write about or call themselves?
Seriously…I used to also offer to exchange emails for free until my time was abused. I had to cut people off because they cannot choose a name.
Toyota is taken. Apple is taken. The really good names are taken.
I had some really stupid names for some of my most trafficked blogs – PanAsianBiz, Filmyfair, RisingSunOfNihon. And they still had gone over several million views.
The point – the name doesn’t matter all that much. Really.
3 Suggestions for Choosing What to Name Your Blog.
- 1. Pick something that is easy to remember
- 2. Make sure the name is easy to speel, spiel, speirl, I mean spell.
- 3. When all else fails, use your name. Unless, of course, nobody knows how to spell it.
But for goodness sake, pick a name.
