My Anticipation for the Blogging Class
Unlike many others in my class, marketing is my core competence. It is the field I am passionate about and have worked at for the past four to five years. Fortunately or unfortunately my experience had been limited to traditional marketing and communications only. So as soon as I saw this course was available at ITU its was my first choice. Even before I had taken the first class I was super excited as I expected I would learn more about marketing communication in the digital world. Adwords, SEO, digital marketing, using social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn etc. we would discuss case studies, explore new ways of guirella marketing.
The Blogging Class Requirements
When we were asked to purchase a domain before our first day of class, I actually thought it would be about creating a business idea of mine and promoting it through social media. With all these thoughts in my mind I walked into the first class of Marketing With Social Media all geared up and looking forward to my next project. Once the class started the professor informed us that the performance objective of the course was creating a blog site and maximizing traffic to it. Each student was expected to create a blog site of their own, write approximately 300 posts and maximize traffic to their site. Whoa, the entire class including myself was shaken by the announcement. With a 40 hour internship and family commitments we were all expected to write three articles everyday.
My Performance in the Class
Initially I was happy that I was learning something and even chose a topic I genuinely wanted to write about. It is serious topic about social issues. When I actually got down to writing I realized if I wanted to write well and pour my complete heart into a particular subject I would require at least 3-4 hours to finish one article with complete research, pictures and links. Time which I did not have, but I had to finish my course too. I started with writing articles of 400-500 words but realized it was too time consuming and at that rate I would never get the grade. That’s when I started writing smaller, crispier articles. I never aspired to be a writer and sometimes it gets boring to write so many articles, sometimes its frustrating but I still have to finish off this semester somehow and what keeps me going is my cause. Every time, I write on a social issue close to my heart the satisfaction that I get is what pushes me to write further and keep moving.
