How much does it cost to get a real high quality backlink from a real web site?
Well, if you do your blog well and network well and read other blogs often = to the point that they come read yours…. then the backlink can be free…except, of course, your time is definitely worth something to you, right?
If you offer to guest write for someone and they agree, the backlink will cost you the time it takes to write and post at the other site.
If you interview someone from another site at your site and the interviewee lets people know they were interviewed at your site by telling readers at their (the interviewee’s) site, then the back link costs nothing but your time.
If you leave real comments at other sites and they get noticed and approved, the backlink costs nothing but your time.
If you write something that is genuinely and really cool, and a bunch of folk pass it around and put it on their sites, the backlink costs nothing but your time.
But, if you want to ‘buy’ your way onto somebody’s site… you know, “Can I pay you to just put a link up on your site?” you can sometimes do that. Oh, yeah. It happens.
I get solicitations quite often and my friends in the blogosphere get solicited as well.
The cost – $150-250 a year to sometimes that much EACH month! Indeed some sites are that desperate to get a good genuine backlink…. but then it’s not genuine if it were paid for, is it? That’s a different topic. (No, I have never let somebody buy their way on to my site.)
So, what’s a new blogger to do? If they want backlinks?
There are 2 very good ways, other than those mentioned above.
1. Hang out in physical places where other bloggers and business or web site owners hang out and swap contact information and go home and link up.

2. Join a forum/membership where serious business bloggers hang out.
