What are the benefits to the blogger of using badges like New Media Live is issuing?
New Media Live issued this badge to me:
The reason they issued it is obvious – it is because I am one of their featured speakers at the event they are having in Vegas in January. Yay, me! Right?
Therein lies one of the benefits of badges for a blogger. Mojo. Moxie. Juice. Credibility. Just me saying, or, um writing that these guys have recognized me as one of their featured speakers and have given me access to the badge to put on my site will let the reader know that I am ‘somebody’ in the blog world.
NMX Live does NOT let just anybody speak or have these badges. Well, you could steal the badge and lie about why you have it on your site. But if you follow this link to featured speakers and see my name Bill Belew. You will know that I am not lying.
But there is another benefit to the badges. And that benefit goes to the blog that issues the badge, in this case NMX live.
The astute reader will notice that I have already linked to NMX Live a couple of times in this post – once to my speaker bio and once to the home event. NMX Live is getting back links from me! That’s juice, too! That’s good SEO fundamentals.
I get something, they get something. When SEO is done right, everyone sleeps well.
And THAT is why bloggers and blog sites use badges.
