After blogging for 5 consecutive weeks, I had several realizations when I first started blogging, my main goal was to be able to test my writing skills and see what kind of writing I could do. As the weeks rolled by, my aim changed. Today, my aim is to get more and more readers to my blog and build a pool of loyal readers.
I have found out that blogging ain’t easy….. No one said it was!
Blogging isn’t a quick fix to getting noticed either… it takes time.. it takes perseverance.. and a LOT of writing good quality stuff!
Before I started my blogging endeavors, I had many questions swirling around in my head. Most of these questions are what most first time bloggers have, I bet:
1.) What do I blog about?
This may seem like a fundamental question, but I really had no clue about what to blog about and what do I focus my writing on? This is the first important step in shaping the success of your blog. If you are writing about something that no one wants to read..what is the point?
2.) How hard is blogging?
Since I had never blogged before, I had no frame of reference for how hard it would be. I have now realized that it is a hard work!
3.) How soon can I start making money?
This was an obvious question. After hearing all about how Prof. Belew is a professional blogger and that blogging is his primary source of income, I was definitely intrigued and wanted to know just how to do what he does.
4.)How often do I have to blog?
I realized that the answer to this one is very subjective. The simple answer would be more blogs = more traffic. While that hold true to a certain extent, you need to ensure you are writing quality blogs and not just writing to “match the frequency”.
5.) How difficult is it to set up a blog site?
I used to think, setting up a blog site was a big complicated process where you have to get a professional web designer to design your blog. I was pleasantly surprised to find out just how easy it was to set up a blog site with WordPress.
I had all these and many other questions before I started blogging. Luckily for me, I was learning the tricks of the trade from the King of Social Media himself, Prof. Bill Belew! He has answered all the questions I have had and has made my blogging journey that much more easy.
Are all my questions answered? Well not really.. because I have a new question everyday.
Lately, I have been battling with the following questions:
1.) How do I steadily increase the traffic to my blog?
I have been writing consistently and writing good quality stuff I think. As a result of which, my blog belong to the top 10 blogs in my class for 4 consecutive weeks. I know now that people are visiting my blog. What I need to know is how to grow that number? I know there is no straight formula for that, but I want to know if I need to do anything else in addition to what I am already doing in order to get more traffic to my website.
2.)When can I start seeing some money?
I know that it isn’t going to be anytime soon. But is there a certain number of blog posts I need to write before I can expect some money? Certain amount of traffic? I need to know what are the threshold numbers to be hit before I can expect to see any money from my blog.
3.)How do I differentiate my blog from the million others on the Internet?
Let’s face it. Everyone is blogging these days. Not everyone is doing a god job…but everyone is still at it. I want to know how to be able to make my blog more visible in the crowd.
4.)How do I contact advertisers?
Assuming that my blog gets a lot of traffic with time, what are the next steps? Whom do I contact for posting advertisements on my blog? How do I market my blog to them? I know I have a long way to go still..A lot of posts to write.. A lot of hard work to put in. But one thing I do know is that I have found my new passion and I plan to stick to it for a long long time.
